Two Dynamic Performers Bring Magic to the Role of the Genie in Springfield Community Theater’s Bilingual Aladdin

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Audiences attending Springfield Community Theater of MA’s production of Disney’s Aladdin Dual Language Edition will experience something truly special this July: two gifted performers sharing the role of the unforgettable Genie.

Taking turns bringing the larger-than-life character to the stage are J. David Martinez, founder and artistic director of Springfield’s acclaimed 7ArtsLatino Foundation, and Manuel Morales of Holyoke, who recently directed Applause and has long been recognized for his contributions to theater throughout Western Massachusetts.

Together, the two performers embody the humor, heart, and showmanship that have made the Genie one of Disney’s most beloved characters.

For Martinez, whose work through 7ArtsLatino Foundation has helped amplify Latino voices and celebrate Hispanic culture through the arts, the role represents another opportunity to build connections through storytelling.

“One of the beautiful things about this production is that it reflects the community we live in,” said Martinez. “Music and theater have the power to bring people together across cultures and languages.”

Morales, a veteran performer and director whose recent production of Applause delighted audiences, welcomes the opportunity to return to the stage in one of musical theater’s most iconic comic roles.

“Genie is pure joy,” said Morales. “He’s funny, unpredictable, and larger than life. I love the chance to connect with audiences and share the magic with children and families.”

Their partnership also highlights the spirit of collaboration that defines Springfield Community Theater of MA’s groundbreaking bilingual production. Blending English and Spanish throughout the storytelling, Aladdin Dual Language Edition celebrates the rich cultural diversity of Springfield and the Pioneer Valley while remaining accessible and entertaining for audiences of every background.

Featuring beloved songs, dazzling choreography, and a talented cast of children, teens, and adults from across the region, the production promises laughter, wonder, and plenty of surprises—including two unique interpretations of the famous Genie.
